NEW TVIFF 2023 EVENT ON SALE NOW! From Teesside University to Game of Thrones to starting the award winning film production company Candle & Bell, the Tees Valley International Film Festival welcomes Maria Caruana Galizia to ARC to tell us about her journey in the world of film and TV. Having faced rampant sexism as a young producer in a notoriously male dominated industry, Maria’s love for the artistry of cinema helped her battle through. In her own words “I am a woman and I’m creative. I can hold a camera, I can edit and produce and I can handle money and run a company. There’s space for me. The stories I want to tell, people want to hear”, and now Marie comes back to Teesside to tell her story and to advise others on how they too can forge a great career behind the camera. The evening also includes a screening of Maria’s British Independent Film Award nominated short film “A Six and Two Threes”, which was filmed in Stockton before ending with an in depth Q&A. If you want to be creatively inspired and deeply entertained, My Journey by Maria Caruana Galizia is the show for you. Go to the What's On section to get your tickets today!
Big Smooth charts the life of Neil Fingleton, a man who grew up in Durham and carried on growing until he, at the height of seven feet and six inches tall, became Britain’s tallest living person. This moving documentary is a loving tribute to a remarkable man who embraced his unique physicality and went on to become a professional basketball star in America, before taking up acting, starring in 417 Ronin, Doctor Who, X-Men and most notably as Mag, the fearsome giant in classic TV Series Game of Thrones. This TVIFF gala screening will be the first time Big Smooth has been shown in a cinema since it’s premieres in the UK and US in April. To make the occasion even more special, we will be joined by filmmaker Paul Stainthorpe and Neil’s brother, Michael, who will take part in an interview and audience Q&A. Big Smooth is a heartwarming film about a wonderfully gifted person and is not to be missed. Get your tickets in the What's On section of this website!
Middlesbrough born actor, Stephen Uppal, returns to his beloved Teesside to tell you all about his journey from the streets of Teesside to the West End stage as a lead actor in History Boys, onto our TV screens as Rav Roy in Hollyoaks, across the Atlantic to Los Angeles where his career moved towards writing and film production and back to England to oversee the making of a major drama series he wrote that will go into production next year. Through sharing stories of the wonderful experiences, inspiring people and many challenges he faced along the way, Stephen will demonstrate how making yourself more than just an actor will increase your opportunities and possibly take you on an entirely different creative path to the one you intended travelling down. The event will also include a showing of “Abe”, a celebrated short film which Stephen wrote, produced and acted in, as well as an open and honest Q&A session. So if you wish to be greatly entertained and creatively inspired, “My Journey by Stephen Uppal” is not to be missed. Get your tickets in the What's On section of this website!
The Tees Valley International Film Festival brings you a gala world premiere of Teesside filmmaker Paul Suggitt’s “Eddy – My Universe”. Charting the life of Hartlepool’s Eddy Ellwood, this documentary delves into the life of the five time Mr Universe Bodybuilding Champion. Eddy’s early years as doorman in the pubs and clubs of Teesside lead him into the dark world of enforcement that gave him a name very different from that of the successful gym owner he is known as today. The film also documents Eddy’s legal battle with the UK government after his refusal to close his gym under Covid lockdown regulations led to him being hit with a £56000 fine. To make this world premiere even more special, Eddy Ellwood and Paul Suggitt will be in attendance to take part in an in depth interview and an open and honest Q&A session after the screening to tell you even more about Eddy’s remarkable life and the making of this equally remarkable documentary. Go to the What's On page to get your tickets today.

One of the key aims of the Tees Valley International Film Festival is to kickstart a new generation of filmmaker, actor and writer. Fame often comes hand in hand with great success in the arts, so TVIFF wouldn't be doing its job if we didn't help teach you about the highs and lows that celebrity can bring...and who better to teach us than the two most popular Big Brother winners of all time! An Evening with Pete Bennett and Anthony Hutton comes to Arc Stockton as part of the Tees Valley International Film Festival in October. The event will be hosted by Goffy from BBC Radio Tees and before taking audience questions, Anthony and Pete will tell all about how it felt to walk into the BB house an everyday person and to leave a few weeks later as the most famous person in the country. This one's not to be missed. Get your tickets in the What's On section.
Michael met with Darlington filmmaker Jim Campbell to confirm that TVIFF will provide full funding for Jim's next short film, which will then be premiered at TVIFF 2023. His previous short "Bushwhacker Blues" was nominated for Best North East Film at TVIFF 2022, so this partnership lays testament to the ongoing support we give to creatives that engage with the Tees Valley International Film Festival.
